shines in US chess

Dallas Championships.
Rafael Guerrero, a
Form Five student of St Mary’s College, took second place out of a
field of 12 players with an average rating of 1908 at the recent
Dallas Scholastic Chess Championships. Guerrero ended the five-round
Swiss tournament with 3.5 points behind Mitchell Powell, a 2107
rated player from the US, who finished with a perfect score. The
tournament featured top scholastic players from the US and Canada
with an average rating 1908.

Justin at Junior Orange Bowl

At the Junior Orange
Bowl Championships, which took place at the Embassy Suites, Miami,
the Chess Foundation team of Maia and Justin Labastide and Jordel
Harry gained the team prize for fifth place. Seven year old Justin
took the eighth place in the individual category.
